
Media fraternity helps to create public awareness against Lake Victoria degradation

The Organization of Journalists against Drugs Abuse and Crime in Tanzania (OJADACT) under the technical support of The Tanzania Nile Discourse Forum (TNDF) contributed to the public awareness against Lake Victoria Degradation.
The intervention of OJADACT which is member of Tanzania National Discourse Forum, was in line with project entitled “Lake Victoria Region Local Authority Cooperation (LVRLAC)” supported by UN-Habitat and Swedish International Development Agency.
During the public awareness, TNDF connected the ODAJACT to different Newspapers and radio stations and arranged the radio program sessions in the project implementation regions.

The project involved eight cities: Kampala, Jinja and Entebbe (Uganda); Kisumu and Homa Bay (Kenya); and Musoma, Mwanza and Bukoba (Tanzania).
OJADACT, published more than 50 articles in newspapers (local and national) and 20 radio programs (in local and national) between 2016 - 2017.

The post project evaluation of LVRLAC project shows that Lake Victoria degradation reduced to 20% of severity from 60% (2016) to 40% (2017).
