Women as a target group participate in a focused group discussion during the training workshop
The Sudanese Environment Conservation Society (SECS) in collaboration with Sudan National Discourse forum (SNDF) and Consumer Protection Society (CPS) conducted a training workshop on Environmental citizenship, within the framework of cooperation and common interest in environmental and consumer issues, due to their close association with human rights and improving living condition.

The workshop took place from 8th to 11th of February, 2021 at SECS training Hall with 20 participants in total (11 females, 9 males) from community NGOs and CBOs.

Environmental citizenship is one of the programs through which SECS seeks to enhance the role of the individuals and community in achieving a sustainable environment. Environmental citizenship is a concept call to remind people to actively participate in all environmental issues and adopt an environmental behavior, that enhances and encourages environmental sustainability of natural resources, and takes into account the requirements of future generations.

The main objective of the workshop was to increase active environmental awareness and knowledge of consumer rights and responsibilities.
The other Objectives were (a) Strengthening the capacity of target groups; (b) knowledge dissemination and experience sharing; and to facilitate linkages between the CBOs and NGOs.

Participants were trained on basic concepts and principles of environmental citizenship and people participation; total quality and safety first; consumer rights and responsibilities, and food safety.

It was observed that many local communities are ready and willing to participate in dissemination of the concept of Environmental citizenship to neighboring communities and schools.

In line with controlling the spread of COVID-19, the number of participants was highly reduced in order to comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
