Lake Albert is part of the system of the upper Nile and the main sources are the Victoria Nile
The DR Congo National Discourse Forum (DRCNDF) held a consultation meeting with consultants on the trans-boundary Management of Lakes Edward and Albert Integrated Basin Management Plan. The plan is under the second phase of Lake Edward and Albert Fisheries (LEAF 2).

The meeting took place on November 16, 2017, and aimed at collecting data on different actors, opportunities and challenges of the basin in order to elaborate the trans-boundary management of Lakes Edward and Albert Integrated Basin Management Plan.
The NBD National Technical Support Expert – DR Congo, Mr. Elias Paluku shared with the team the achievements of DRCNDF and areas of intervention. He also presented some of the challenges within the basin including: Effects of Climate change, lack of good infrastructure, unbalanced population growth, conflicts, lake invasive soil erosion, etc.

The DRCNDF is one of most active CSO network in the Congo River Basin. Some of the related projects achieved so far include creation of anti erosion ditches in of Lubero and Beni, etc

LEAF is a project implemented by the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI). The project is funded by African Development Bank with the objective of availing the Governments of Uganda and DR Congo a sustainable investment and management plan for the joint utilization of the water and fisheries resources of Lakes Edward and Albert.
